Meghalaya, located in the picturesque Himalayas, can be reached through various modes of transportation. Direct access is available via road from nearby cities such as Guwahati, Shillong, and Dibrugarh. The state has a well-developed network of roadways, making it relatively easy to travel to and within Meghalaya despite its mountainous terrain.
BY AIR: Umroi, the only airport in Meghalaya, is situated 35 kilometers from Shillong. You can take a taxi or cab from the airport to your destination. Due to poor connectivity between the airport and other Indian cities, there aren’t many flights available. But be careful to check the most recent information and modify your schedule if necessary. The two airports in Assam are Dibrugarh Airport and Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati and Dibrugarh, respectively. The airports have easy access to several Indian cities, such as Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata, for domestic travel. Direct and connected flights are regularly operated along these routes by major airlines such as SpiceJet, IndiGo, Air India, and others.
BY TRAIN: There aren’t any train stations in Meghalaya right now. The closest station, in Guwahati, is 100 miles from Shillong and can be used to reach the capital of Meghalaya. The Guwahati station, which offers good links to other Indian towns, is a popular route to Meghalaya. The major cities of India, such as Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chennai, are well-connected by rail from Assam. The main train station in Assam is the Guwahati Railway Station, which is the hub of an advanced national rail system.
BY ROAD: National highways traverse Assam, offering the state superior transportation links. Many of Assam’s cities are accessible from its neighboring states. Furthermore, Guwahati is easily accessible for tourists to Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland because of its national highways.
